Painting No - 01

Anarkali Bazaar is an extension of old city in front of Lohari Gate. Here, the first building called Anarkali I, is only double storeyed with a hotel on the top & shops below. Money changers, repairers of sewing machines and battery torches can be seen on both sides of the famous shop where the tastiest of the fried river fish can be had. Equally intringuing is the sight coconuts, canned pineapples, wooden and metal souveniers and tie and dye batiks on hand loomed pure cotton. As you turn around the hotel, oriental flavours of spices, tobaccos, betal, nuts, cloves and aromatic herbs over whelm. The hussle and bussle increases as the bazaar further narrows down till the scenario changes where they sell kebabs and further down, the silk screen printers take over.
There were many old building in the area some have been pulled down. This one, built during 1910’s has underwent changes. Trefoil windows with a multifoiled hood is a reminiscent of the earlier style.
